About

Since its first issue in 1964, Panku has been a student-run literary and arts magazine that showcases Broward College students’ creative work in fiction, poetry, nonfiction, art, film, and music.

“In Chinese mythology, P’an Ku was the God of Creation. Born of chaos, he was both male and female. The Yin and the Yang are his symbols. He spent over 18,000 years creating the sun, the moon, the stars, the heavens, and the Earth.

After P’an Ku died, he split into a number of parts. His head formed the Sun and Moon. His blood became the rivers and the seas. His hair became the forests. His sweat became the rain. His breath became the wind, and his voice became the thunder. His fleas became the ancestors of man. P’an Ku is the ancient Chinese God of Creation. Anyone who is endowed with creativity is possessed by the spirit of P’an Ku.”

A publication of change

Opportunity

Panku fosters the creativity of student editors within an engaging, collaborative, and creative environment. Through this program, workforce and personal skills such as editing, publishing, marketing, graphic design, music, and filmmaking can be developed and further reinforced in a professional setting.

Exhibition

Panku harbors some of the most diverse and artistic forms of media developed by students within the college. In the student-run paradigm that Panku assumes, Broward College’s whole student body is granted a rare opportunity to share their creativity with the community, and gain recognition for their conceptions and contributions.

Distinction

Panku is an award-winning magazine that publishes twice a year, one issue for each major semester. As a member of Florida College System Press Association (FCSPA), it is recognized at the awards banquet during the annual FCSPA conference as “one of the best literary & arts magazines among the state college system in Florida.”
